Levels of Post-Secondary Study in Canada

The Canadian government allows every province and territory to design and control its educational programs. Even though there are regional distinctions, most of the Canadian institutions follow similar terms and conditions to detail their pathways and credentials. The length and causes of the programs play a pivotal role in an international students’ decision to take up the course. The course and the application are imperative in students’ prospects for employment and immigration in Canada.
Undergraduate Studies in Canada
Undergraduate courses in Canada are done after the Senior secondary or high school, and the duration of undergraduate or bachelor’s course is 3-5 Years. The students should plan a budget of around four years to complete a UG degree in Canada. Once the undergraduate curriculum is completed, and the student has also procured the right amount of experience and language skills, the students can qualify for a variety of federal and provincial immigration programs. The students also go ahead with their master’s degree, for which the bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite. Canada offers a lot of courses and programs at the UG level.
Certificate Programs

The certificate program in Canada involves 3-8 months of post-secondary study in the area of interest or subject. The common subjects for this include IT, Business and Healthcare, etc. There are other pre-diploma and Pre-degree options available for the same. The certificate courses provide post-secondary students with entry-level skills for any vocation. All Canadian colleges offer certificate courses. The Canadian secondary school diploma is required to enroll in a certificate program.
College or University Diploma
Two years or four to six full-time semesters
College diplomas are a minimum of two academic years. The college study programs are created to cater to the specific demands of the technical or particular business lines to condition professionals for vocational careers. Diploma programs are mostly designed to have Internships and apprenticeship options. The Diploma courses can be upgraded to a bachelor’s degree. College Diploma requires that a student has completed the Senior Secondary Program.
Associate Degree

An associate degree in Canada needs 60 Points credit or a foundational undergraduate program in a general area of studies like Arts and Sciences. Associate Degree comprises a lot of generic academic subjects along with a specialization in an area of interest.

Bachelor's Degree

Bachelor’s degree completes four years of the full-time program. The subjects can be from general science, engineering, arts, and Business, etc. Students should attain the general and foundational knowledge in the first two years and then get specialization in a Major. Several faculties also provide a fifth professional year in which a supervised course is included.
Graduate Studies in Canada
Master’s Degree
Master’s degree spans for one to three years of specialized postgraduate study and offers professional practice in some cases. These degrees are given by affiliated universities and are an extension of the subjects studied in the bachelor’s course. The programs need the student to do original research in a significant project or Thesis. Masters programs can be undertaken after one has completed a bachelor’s degree.
Postgraduate Diplomas and Postgraduate Certificates
Several diplomas and certificates can be taken after the bachelor’s degree has been completed. The programs may be up to three full semesters; the students can transfer their courses to the master’s degree later. The courses can complement a bachelor’s degree and have specialization in some subject areas. The common subjects’ areas on the sessions may include Sales, Business Administration, and Resource management.
Doctorate Degree
Approximately four to six years
In general, a doctorate program comprised of three years of full-time study in analytical coursework along with Hugh end dissertation and Thesis. The PHDs can be a prerequisite for jobs like doctors, administration jobs, and college professors. The Doctorate completes in a minimum of 4- 6 years.

What are university transfer programs?
Colleges, both career and applied arts & technology, provide certification and diplomas. The universities offer bachelor’s masters and doctors degrees. The accredited public colleges also offer a bachelor’s degree and a lot of graduate certificates and diplomas. Most of the universities provide the postgraduate certificate and diploma courses.
Can credits be transferred?
The overseas diploma and certificate programs are not recognized for the completion of a Canadian bachelor’s degree. The Partner schools may have the articulation agreements giving students a chance for transferring the same for the end of their course.
