Spousal And Common-law Partner Sponsorship

Reunification of the families is the objective of Canadian family class immigration schemes.

The family class allows the permanent residents of Canada to sponsor the immigration of their relatives and friends. As such, the Canadian system gives the highest priority to Family class applications.

THE SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

Under the spousal sponsorship program, a citizen to Canada may sponsor the immigration of a spouse or common-law partner.

The approval by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is required by both, Canadian sponsor and the foreign national (spouse) to receive the visa.

Outland Sponsorship

It is the mode of the application when the sponsored partner is outside Canada. Outland applicants can still be in Canada, and apply through this program to travel in and out of Canada throughout the application process. These applications are processed at the visa offices where the applicants have resided legally for at least one year or in the applicant’s country of origin.

Inland Sponsorship

The other potential option for Spousal/Common-Law Sponsorship is the Inland route. Inland sponsorship is when the couple is together in Canada and the foreign spouse/common-law partner has temporary status in Canada, either as a worker, student, or visitor. The person being sponsored may be eligible for an Open Work Permit, allowing him or her to work for any employer in Canada while the sponsorship application is being processed. It is the route when the couple are together in Canada, and the sponsored partner has a temporary residence in Canada either as a worker, student or a visitor. The sponsored person may be eligible to work for any employer in Canada while the sponsorship is being processed.
