Your Dreams Our Commitment

Renewing Or Changing Your Study Permit

The duration of studies in Canada needs you to be in legal status all the time. You must renew and extend the permit in case there is expiration nearing.

Maintaining Status in Canada

You mustn’t exceed the permitted duration of stay in Canada without having applied for a change in status. You must also comply with the various conditions like duration of the study, restrictions on work, and maximum workable hours.

You must review your study permit cautiously and familiarize yourself with all the rules it has. You should apply for the renewal before the expiry of current status else you may need to leave Canada.

When the renewal or a change of status application is submitted before the expiry of current status, then you are in implied status, which is like a temporary resident. The proof of the submission of the status change application should be kept safe.

If you lose status in Canada due to failure in compliance of the study permit conditions, you may file for the respiration within 90 days of status loss.

Renewing/Extending Your Study Permit

The study permit should be reapplied if it expired before the completion of the study program. You should submit the new permit application before the expiry of the old one, and it is advisable to do so 30 days before the expiration date. With that, you have enough time at hand. You can do the application submission by mail or online.

Students get the Temporary Resident Visa if the extension is approved.

For students in Quebec, they also need to get the Certificat D’acceptation Du Quebec/Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).

Changing Schools

IRCC mentions that students do not need to get a new study permit in case they transfer from one school to another. You may stay in Canada until your study permit is active.
