Requirements for the Sponsor

The Canadian sponsor needs to meet certain conditions for Family Class Immigration Sponsorship.

Sponsorship applicants, whether they are citizens or permanent residents, are required to meet the following criteria:

The sponsor must be able to demonstrate his/her financial ability to provide his/her dependents and immigrants with the basic needs, including-

Food, clothing, shelter and other essential requirements of everyday living
Dental and eye care, as well as other health needs that are not covered by public health services to all Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents.

The Canadian sponsor needs to enter into following agreements with the Canadian government or government of Quebec-

agreement to provide the immigrant with essential needs for a prescribed period of time
since the sponsor promises to support the sponsored person(s) for a prescribed period of time; the sponsored person must make every possible effort to become self-sufficient if he/she is over 19 years of age and not elderly.

The sponsor must have either:

Physical residency in Canada, or
A proven intention to be a permanent Canadian resident by the time his/her spouse, parents, and/or dependent children lands in Canada.
