The researchers and highly-skilled workers under the Global skills strategy (GSS) may enter Canada to work without requiring a work permit.
Researchers
To be eligible for the work permit exemption, the researcher needs to prove that-
They will work in Canada for a period of 120 days every year.
They will work at a Canadian, degree-granting institution or an affiliated research institution that is publicly funded.
Highly Skilled Workers
Highly skilled workers need to demonstrate that –
They will work in an occupation that is placed in NOC skill level 0 or A (executive, managerial, professional)
They will either be working in Canada for up to 15 days continuously once in 6 months or
Up to 30 consecutive days once every year.
Workers exempted under these categories need to obtain a TRV (Temporary Resident Visa), if applicable. Once the exemption ends, the worker must stop and wait for being eligible for the next exemption under this category or they may apply for a work permit.
